NFL Week 1 FNF Recap

Friday Night Football Because the NFL Can Do Whatever It Wants

Source: PFF

Eagles/Packers: No Love In Sao Paulo: The Eagles edged out the Packers 34-29 to open the NFL’s international season in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Friday because the NFL can do whatever it wants. Neither team looked amazing, particularly after watching the Ravens/Chiefs 24 hours earlier, but both showed signs of being future playoff teams.

The bets were mixed - I was an Eagles believer but Hurts not getting in the end zone really hurts (get it?), especially after he fumbled a tush push snap at the 1. PAIN. Shoutout to DraftKings for the Mahomes promo. More plz.

Disclaimer: I’m a Bears fan so naturally the Packers are disgusting. Here’s to remaining objective (or perhaps just factual). Jordan Love was 17-34 for 260 yards with 2 TD and 1 INT. 6 players recorded receptions for the Packers. Christian Watson or Jayden Reed appears to be the favorite? I don’t know, they’re gross. Next.

Okay, for real, as a Bears fan (my favorite qualifier), am I scared of the Packers? Absolutely! Should the rest of the league be scared too? Eh, maybe. At least not until Love is back from that MCL sprain sadly suffered in the closing seconds of the game (no sarcasm there, these guys are humans and injuries suck).

Are The Eagles Good? Probably? The offense looked clunky at times and Hurts made some questionable throws. It’s tough to separate Week 1 rustiness in a new system from leftover issues from the back half of last season. Kellen Moore’s faster pace definitely suits them but if the Packers had even half an answer for Saquon, are the Eagles flying home 1-0?

Speaking of Saquon, he had a whopping 24 rushing attempts, culminating in 109 yards and 2 TD, plus 2 receptions on 2 targets for 23 yards and a third TD. I’ve got to be honest, I was hesitant to play anything Saquon because I was sure Jalen Hurts would vulture his yards and TDs. And while that still could prove true, it definitely wasn’t Friday night. Turns out the grass was a little greener over the PA/NJ border…

Other Thoughts: The field sucked. Brazil seemed like a dangerous enough situation for concern. Goodell vs. player safety is an enigma.
